Making Soap

I haven't blogged in forever! I have a great husband that has filled in for me, but I have a lot of catch up. About 2 months ago I tried making homemade goatsmilk soap. I was very nervous to work with the lye, but I found it to be a pretty easy process and really enjoyed making it.
I used the cold process in making the soap. I was very careful to make sure the lye didn't burn the solution. I couldn't believe how hot the soap mixture got just from a chemical reaction. THe tub was constantly on ice to prevent the lye from burning the mixture.

Here I am in my gear. I didn't want to expose my skin to the lye. I look like a dork, but I'm protected!

After I poured the soap in the tub I covered it with plastic wrap to prevent ash from forming and put a towel on top for insulation. The soap then sat in a closet for 4 weeks to cure.

Here I am getting ready to cut the soap into bars after 4 weeks of waiting.

The finished product! It was well worth the wait. We have a ton of soap now and it is the best soap ever according to Aaron. We really like it. It moisturizes your skin and it doesn't leave a residue on the skin.
Now to start planning the Christmas soap bars . . .

You are sooo brave working with lye! The soap Michael left at the cabin is great too! Lisa used to sell homemade soaps that were clear and had stuff in them for different skin types.
